CASA volunteers must complete the extensive 33 hours of pre-service training, which is approved by National CASA Association.  This training includes 30 hours of in-class work and 3 hours of courtroom observations. Additionally, CASA volunteers are required to complete pre-class work assignments.  CASA volunteers will gain the necessary training and skills to effectively advocate for children involved in the complex child welfare and court system.  Some of the specific topics include, the volunteer’s role, child welfare laws, the court process,  understanding trauma of children involved in abuse and neglect cases, attachment theory and childhood development, case studies, court report writing and more.
